The August 2008 FCH Newsletter will be available for viewing until the end of August 2008. In order to view the August Newsletter and other archived newsletters in future, you must be a member of FCH.

Call for Nominations for 2008 Outstanding Service to Homeless People in Florida Award
|
The Florida Coalition for the Homeless (FCH) is pleased to issue a call for nominations for the 2008 Outstanding Service to Homeless People in Florida Award. Any Floridian who, in the opinion of the nominator, has made a difference through work with or on behalf of homeless people through education, service, advocacy, organizing, leadership and/or perseverance during 2007-08 is eligible for nomination. Please take a moment to consider individuals within your community that have touched people’s lives or affected recognizable change.
There are three categories to make your nominations: General, Homeless/Formerly Homeless, and Local/State Government Leadership. One person is chosen for each category and recognized the evening of October 6, 2008 during our annual conference in Orlando at the Royal Plaza Hotel. All nominations will be listed in the 2008 conference packet.
Nominations must be submitted using the attached form. Nominations should be emailed to freyja@fchonline.org or faxed to 850-412-0052 or mailed to the Florida Coalition for the Homeless, P.O. Box 3764, Tallahassee, FL 32315. Nominations must be postmarked no later than Friday, September 5, 2008.

Register for the 2nd Annual Homeless and Supportive Housing Conference
|
The Florida Coalition for the Homeless, Florida Supportive Housing Coalition, and Florida Department of Children and Families are jointly hosting this year’s conference. We are working to make this year’s joint conference an even better example of the advantages of working together for a common goal.
We have invited national and local speakers to present on housing and service needs and solutions that will empower participants with information to affect change in their communities and lives. Our plenary speakers include:
•Nan Roman, Executive Director, National Alliance to End Homelessness
•James Wright, Department of Sociology, University of Central Florida
•Steve Leifman, Judge of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit, Miami-Dade
•Admiral Leroy Collins, Executive Director, Department of Veterans Affairs (tentative)
•Steve Auger, Executive Director of the Florida Housing Finance Corporation
•Faces of Homelessness Speakers’ Bureau, National Coalition for the Homeless
